Description

Pil-Food is a food supplement containing a special formulation of amino acids, vitamins and essential fatty acids – all nutrients that scientific studies involving thousands of people have shown to be helpful in sustaining healthy hair growth.

Strong, healthy hair needs to be fed from the inside. Every single one of the 100,000 – 400,000 hairs found on an average head is made up of two parts: the root, which is nourished by blood via the papilla; and the hair shaft, which is visible, and largely made up of a protein called keratin.

Pil-Food capsules provide the sulphurated amino acids (including DL-Methionine and L-Cysteine) the body uses as building blocks to encourage production of keratin, and to help hair keep its strength and elasticity.

Keratin needs to be manufactured by our bodies as it is not something that can be rubbed in, or applied in some way to the hair shaft.

Some Facts About Hair:

Hair has a special meaning in our society. We associate colour, length, condition and style to our personality, individuality and place in society. Its condition often reflects our physical and psychological well being. Healthy hair makes us feel confident but hair loss may cause emotional distress, low self esteem and decreased self confidence.

Hair consists of two parts:

The internal part - the hair root, which is made up of living cells - is an appendage of the skin which grows out of the hair follicle, a small pocket in the scalp. At the base of the follicle is the root. The root is nourished by blood supplied through the papilla.The papilla links the body's blood supply to each growing strand of hair.

· The external part known as the hair shaft - this is made up of dead cells. The hair shaft consists mainly of keratin - a hard protein similar to that found in our nails. Over 90% of hair is made of keratin which is very strong and supple. Keratin cannot be directly absorbed and therefore needs to be produced in our bodies. Hair Facts

The life cycle of hair can be characterised by three main phases;

1. Anagen- growth

 2. Catagen - transition

3. Telogen - resting.

The first phase, Anagen, normally lasts between 2 - 6 years, a period when the hair is in the growth phase.

At the end of this time hair stops growing and moves into the Catagen phase. This is a very short transition phase lasting about 1 - 2 weeks. The hair is no longer being developed but is still attached to the scalp for a further 2 - 4 months, before detaching itself. This is known as the Telogen phase. Meanwhile the follicle starts to produce another hair, which will push out any old unwanted hair.

In normal circumstances 85% of our hair is in the Anagen (growing) phase, 1% Catagen (transition) and 14% Telogen (resting).

Excessive hair loss can occur when this ratio is disturbed by various factors and the percentage of hair in the growing phase (Anagen) is reduced, whilst the hair in the hair loss phase (Telogen) is increased i.e. 70% Anagen.
