Naturally occurring antioxidants in foods help to protect the tissues and cells against excessive oxidation. Proanthocyanadins found in the skin of blueberries, black cherries and in the pulp of blackberries are potent antioxidants. Flavonoids are responsible for the deep reddish blue colour of most berries.

 

The cherry tree is native to Asia and was bought to Italy in the first century B.C. For over fifty years German naturopaths have used a variety of berry juices and cherry juice as part of their dietary regimes.
